Historical peak temperature records broken - Demand Forecasting

June 2022 saw the warmest temperatures on record over the world’s land areas – and record–breaking heatwaves have swept across the northern hemisphere, particularly continental Europe, the UK, China and parts of the US. Temperature extremes keep delivering higher peak summer temperatures, creating several challenges to serve the needs of customers.

Developing forecasting models to calculate the extreme expected value for temperature swings is a critical step in building resiliency. At Brainstorm we work with customers to develop these extreme value forecasts for both summer and winter weather to provide visibility to the likelihood of a temperature and the impact on your business. With our temperature modeling we can customize a temperature dependency forecast that is tailored to your needs.

For example we have developed winter peak temperature forecasts to determine the 1 in 30 year low daily average temperature. With this information we can accurately predict the peak winter weather and peak natural gas usage. How this peak day probability of occurrence changes as the year progress provides significant actionable intelligence. This allows for better optimization of resources; being conservative while that peak day probability remains elevated and shifting strategy as time progresses. This time series modeling allows for an accurate forecast of temperature /load thru the year and actionable intelligence for planners and schedulers in an easy to use tool.
